What the Trendsetter Will Most Likely be Wearing and How you Can Dress like a Red Carpet CelebIt’s awards season and the stars are coming out to shine on the red carpet. You’d think there were award for the dress code with all the emphasis that is put on fashion at these glitzy dos. We don’t mind though; the more style we see, the more we can use to make ourselves stand out and look as good as the stars, right?

The African awards season kicked off with the CHOAMVA and we saw some eye-catching garments gracing the red carpet. What was rather impressive was how the gentlemen made such a great effort, with the likes of Ricky Rick in his patterned outfit, Kwesta coming out with stylish white on white, AKA’s casual yet smart jeans and detailed jacket, and of course the man of the night, Cassper Nyovest, with his bright-coloured tailored suits (he changed his outfit more than the hosts).
Other standouts included Thembi Seete’s figure-hugging circle detail gown, Khanyi Mbau’s red suit and crop, and Bucie’s black suede halter dress. Then there were the daring lace numbers, such as the one worn by Seyshe Pam Andrews definitely stole the show with her outfit that showed off her stunning body (although it was not everyone’s favourite, it was definitely a head turner). If this is any indication of how the stars will come out for the Metro FM Music Awards, then we’re in for a style treat.
Let’s go international where fashion’s biggest names have been hard at work, preparing A-listers for their nights of glam. The trends to look out for in red carpet fashion aren’t set yet, but we’ve chosen the looks we think will be big this year.
Colour Yourself Fabulous• Silver sizzlers
The colour choices you make for your outfits are very important. At the MTV Video Music Awards 2014, J-lo wore sultry silver dress, proving that metallic is in. It’s totally glam and flatters every skin tone. So when you have an event to attend, sassy silver.
• Classic white
Pure and simple white dresses are pegged to grace the red carpets. Sofia Vergara, of Modern Family, wore an elegant white gown on the night of the Emmys. You can go for the simple and sophisticated look by choosing a sexy white number. Make sure that you have a great stain remover on hand to keep that bright white dress looking as beautiful as the day you bought it.
• Red is hot and happening
Nothing oozes sex appeal and confidence like a lady in red. The stars aren’t shying away from the scarlet shades for their evenings in the spotlight, and neither should you. Red makes a bold statement for any occasion and complements any skin tone.
• Fit for a queen
There are a wide range of shapes and fits out there, but here are some we think will be seen on the red carpets of the Golden Globe, Metro FM Music and Academy Awards.
v-halter. Plunging necklines are sexy, seductive and absolutely in this season. Another trend we’ve seen is cutouts; from simple to elaborate, peep holes let you bare some flesh and still leave something to the imagination.
Julia Roberts was brave enough to wear a mini dress to the Emmys and her courage paid off. The leggy number was a hit, and we hope to see more of these at the award shows to come. If you’ve got sexy legs, show them off in a mini dress and turn heads.
Crop tops aren’t just for casual wear; they can also be glammed up to be red-carpet-worthy. We anticipate the stars will be exposing a bit of flesh, and you can too by simply styling up for that added glitz.
Beyoncé rocked up in a beautiful long sleeve garment, proving that the ‘covered-up couture’ trend is here to stay. That’s good news for those who like to cover up a bit more, because you can still enjoy looking sexy without giving away too much.
Now we wait with bated breath to see who wears what and who looks like a million dollars on the red carpet. In the meantime, make sure to give yourself the red-hot style of the stars.
