Local celebs we love at the Metro Awards. The Metro’s are always a glitzy affair, and MMA14 was no different! The stars came out in all their style and splendour, bringing a world of glamour to the shores of Durban. We had anticipated that white would be a key colour on red carpets in the awards season, and as you’ll see, the ladies did not disappoint. Credit must also be given to the gentlemen who are really making an effort to look dapper these days.
The hosts, Tbo Touch and Minnie Dlamini turned up in true style, and did a fantastic job! Touch pleasantly surprised with a great variety of outfits although many people questioned the kilt he started the night off with. In fact Minnie didn’t get off to a great start either but redeemed herself as the show went on. Dressed by New York based Michael Costello and styled by New York based celebrity stylist, Steven Kinlock, Minnie dazzled in a lacy, pearly number that started off as a top tucked under a full white skirt, then dropped the skirt to reveal a sexy short bodysuit.
Ladies in whiteThe simple elegance of a white gown is a look you just can’t go wrong with. Pearl Thusi, Noluthando Meje, Mel Bala and Mrs Bheki Cele all worked the white. Refiloe Mpakanyane rocked a gorgeous Suzaan Heyns gown that will be premiering at the Mercedes Benz fashion week, as part of ‘The Wanton Collection’ by Heyns. It was Pearl who took it for us though, in the way she pulled off the angelic look in her Gert-Johan Coetzee gown.
Lerato Kganyago on the other hand proved that white isn’t always right when she went up to present an award in what could have been a space outfit gone wrong.
Another absolutely stunning dress was that of bootilicious Boity Thulo who looked elegant and graceful in a silver gown with sequined detail, by Pallu in Rosebank. Thando Thabethe was also a hit with her figure-hugging Quitteria and George number. Others who dazzled include Isidingo’s Michaella Russell who looked sexy in black, Moneoa in a glam golden gown and Sinazo Yolwa wearing a sophisticated rose detailed gown.

The daring onesPam Andrews is always pushing the envelope at these dos and this time she went with a revealing number that showed off her chest, arms, legs and everything. I don’t even know whether to call this a dress. Perhaps it was a swimsuit with wedding gown type satin and lace side trails? Then there was Kelly Khumalo. The ever controversial songbird wore a long lacy number that just covered the important parts with some sequined detail. It wasn’t amazing though. Another miss, or somewhere in the middle of the spectrum was Pearl Modiadie. The Zaziwa presenter’s maroon ensemble left us a bit confused and not knowing whether to like it or not. But guess who surprised us with an elegant, and stylish garment? Khanyi Mbau! She rocked the black and white dress and topped it off with a divalicious fascinator. MTV Base VJ Nomuzi Mabena’s black crop and long skirt with peepholes was sexy and fleshy giving her a thumbs up for the event.
The king for the nightIt was definitely Cassper Nyovest! He scooped 5 Awards for Best Hip Album, Song of the year, Best Male Album, Listeners choice Award and Best Hit single. He also changed as many times, not evening giving the paparazzi a chance to take a pic of each look! We do suspect he had 6 outfits planned though, because the tweet below.

Bonang Matheba never fails to work the red carpet, but she took it to a whole new lever when she rocked up in an outfit reportedly worth 1.2 Mil! That’s right, she was modeling Cartier jewellery and fashion accessories that had her surrounded by bodyguards throughout the shindig! The glitzy affair ensured ‘your girl B’ took the lead as the first local girl to model Cartier products on the red carpet - share your secret please!
